Healthier Jerky

What are you favorite JERKIES? (haha, that looks odd)

So, I typically have an ounce of jerky for my first snack of the day (or my second "meal", whatever you want to call it) but they are all so high in sodium, and several that are delicious have too many grams of sugar for my liking. I did find some organic deer jerky nearby that is pretty decent, but I'd like to broaden my horizons.

Do any of you order jerky online or through a wholesaler that is lower in sodium and sugar? All jerky should be low in fat and protein, so I'm not too concerned about that.

Thanks!

I make my own! It's super easy, much cheaper than the store-bought stuff, and I can make it just the way my husband and I like. I got a $40 dehydrator on Amazon, and I've been using it for years.

Here's my recipe if you'd like to try it!

It never even occurred to me to try making my own!

GREAT idea!

Looks great! What size London Broil to you typically use in this recipe?

The ones I get at Safeway are usually about 2lb, though I can fit about 4lb in the dehydrator at once if I play meat-Tetris. It's really easy to adjust a larger or smaller batch, since I just eyeball the amount of sauce and seasoning to use.

I make my own too! I use eye round and Alton Brown's recipe. I don't use his method, though... I do it on a super low temp with my oven's dehydrate setting.

I like jerky but I don't always like eating meat. There's an EXCELLENT vegan jerky product called Primal Strips that's literally become one of my absolute favorite snacks post op. '

The peanut flavor is the best in my opinion.. but really every flavor I've tasted has been good.

Like all jerkies the vegan version is lowfat and high protein..a very satisfying portable snack.

Does it taste salty like non vegan jerkies? I love jerky, but sometimes it tastes too salty.

I really like the Kirkland Brand Steak Strips from Costco. The stats are some of the better ones I've seen for jerky.
