My center kept all of us for a minimum of two nights - I was up walking right away and walked laps around the floor every hour - then sipped sipped sipped once I was free to do so (the first day they kept us off water while they watched for issues so we could go straight back in for surgery if there was a problem). I was home the third day, and back to work (easy desk job) the next week!

Wow! I wish I could go right back to work, I'm a nanny so I have to pick up the kids it's gonna be awhile to return. I mean my nurses are awesome but I'm very independent and do things myself.

Yes you need to take plenty of time to heal! Walk as often as you can, slowly but keep moving as it significantly helps your gut system get back in sync. Get your fluids in, and make sure you hit at least 50 g of protein so your body has the tools it needs to physically heal from your surgery :)

Also, like others have said, your family may wish to support you, but if they weren't exactly thrilled with your choice it's possible they may (unintentionally) start to undermine your efforts. Keep a careful eye out for them encouraging you to have "just a bite" or "just a sip" of old favorites. Try to come up with some good responses that can help them cope. One of the best tools I've found isn't to say "I will NEVER eat that again!" but instead to say "I've made a commitment to go without [BAD FOOD CHOICE] for the next 18 months - please help me stick to it - it's ONLY 18 months!" or what ever time period you choose. It seems like it's a lot easier for family and friends to support a temporary change than a permanent one.

My sister, who has been incredible supportive although she is not sold on the surgery as a whole, was in the pre op room with me. One of the nurses told me that she had had her surgery performed by my surgeon and I was in good hands...and my sister said "let me ask you, how do you cope without bacon" and the nurse said "it's just not a part of my life now". That actually resonated with my sister and I'm hoping to be able to incorporate that into my go forward strategies. I think it works nicely with what you mentioned above!

Bacon is a totally fine choice for post-op eating!
