Gastric Bypass or Sleeve
Hey Y'all
1 month until my surgery date and its time to choose. I had the lap band previously and had it removed. I'm so confused. At this point the two procedures in my mind are equally invasive and my surgeon prefers bypass but said he wouldn' object to a sleeve. Here's my question and it has to do with dumping syndrome. With the bypass if you were to eat a bite or two of wedding cake is that going to do you in. I have no problem cutting out the crap on the daily basis but those super occasional special occasions is where Id want a bite. I realize not everyone experiences dumping syndrome but in reality is that a possibility?
It's a very personal choice.
If you have any kind of acid reflux/GERD, read up on that because you'd really want to go with RNY.
Only about 30% of people dump.
I don't dump. I can eat cake. I shouldn't eat cake... it makes me want to eat more cake. I hate that I want to eat cake.
Now, if I eat cake on an empty stomach, about 2 hours later I have reactive Hypoglycemia... I need beef with my cake to stop that from happening. I hate that I've found a work around for that as well.

I am 3 years post VSG, I have had two episodes of dumping in the last 6 months. Both caused after Consuming "Sugar free" Items, one was breath mints and the other was cough drops. Both times it happened I was on the way to meet a vendor. I will save the TMI, lets just say I was embarassed both times as I had to use the bathroom multiple times while visiting my vendors.

Not dumping. Dumping is a direct result from eating sugar. You can't dump on sugar free foods. You can have a nasty reaction to the sugar alcohols. Terrible. odorous, gas with pain, and diarrhea are common symptoms of sugar alcohol consumption. Even non-ops can have problems. Read the reviews on Amazon for sugar free gummi bears. It will make you laugh out loud.
No more sugar free cough drops for this guy! I am looking forward to reading the review for the SF Gummi Bears...LOL
