This is the perfect opportunity to create new traditions and separate food from celebrations. Or, at least the eating too much part! Easter food isn't too bad--ham and boiled eggs, right? Soft foods will require some creativity; I suggest checking out The World According To Eggface. Shelly has a ton of soft-phase recipes, including a great ricotta bake.

The weather should be great during Easter. Plan a hike or outdoor games instead of staying inside to eat and drink yourselves sick.

I don't celebrate Easter, but it's worked out that I've had a tamalada with friends the last two Easters. On the one hand, yes, that makes the day about food. On the other hand, after making a few hundred tamales, we're all too exhausted to eat any of them!

For my birthday weekend, I run a race (5k or half marathon) and celebrate not dying with ice cream. And meat.

Ill tell you what DOESNT work for me anymore- deviled eggs. ( even made with fat free mayo) . I make a really delicious fat free mashed potato but need to go easy on the serving size.

I always bake a KRAKUS ( Polish organic) ham... totally lean and amazingly delicious. I crosshatch it, stick whole cloves in the middle , of the square rub with five spice powder and top with Saucy Susan Apricot glaze... gosh so good high protein delicious tasting and very lean and soft.

I usually make a chopped salad - fennel, tangerine, orange , green onion is a good one and only offer fat free dressings.

There is a fat free wlfreindly ambrosia recipe I make with fresh pineapple chunks, grated coconut, fat free sour cream or Greek yogurt, vanilla, Truvia , a bit of tiny marshmallows mandarin orange slices and maraschino cherries. Art the last minute before serving I mix in fat free whipped cream ( you can also us fat free kool whip) Ive published it here so I wont repeat it.

((())) good luck!!!

You know that ham is animal flesh, right?

Yep. And I do feel properly guilty having known a few pigs. They are amazingly intelligent , emotional and people-connected ( they'd make great pets).

Unluckily for them they're also extremely tasty. At least KRAKUS Polish pigs get to live outside for a while....

I know that I shouldn't be astounded by your hypocrisy, but I am. It astounds me that you rant at people for eating animal flesh, yet are perfectly willing to do it yourself.

I?m what they call a conscious omnivore. As in... I feel guilty murdering other animals. Or worse.. torturing them.. then murdering them. All so I can eat something " delicious?!"

I believe the word you're looking for is "conscientious."

I celebrate Easter the same way I do all holidays. We still cook and eat the same traditional dishes our family has enjoyed for many years. The difference for me is that I eat less, and concentrate on protein, with very small servings of my favorite carb rich foods. And after the holiday is over, it is back to my usual high protein low carb diet.

Holidays were special days for a reason. Those reasons have been obliterated by our society in many ways, most notably in over consumption in both food and other material things. If people get back to observing the days for what they really mean, food becomes much less important while still playing a significant role.
