Ways to Cure Nausea

Hi all,

I'm 4 weeks out to the day, and the past week I have been having big problems with nausea. I rather not take Gravol every single day...it makes me kind of sleepy. What helps you? I am sure there is already a thread for this, but I would like some new fresh answers that I may have not read yet.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Nausea is often due to dehydration or acid at this point. How much fluid are you getting in? Are you taking a PPI such as nexium or prilosec?

Yes, I take a PPI. The dehydration could be the issue. I recently started drinking more water than usual just incase that was the problem.

I find my taste and smell are very strong, so a lot of things make me feel sick.

You might need to consider a stronger PPI. But definitely work on getting your liquid up. Drinking through a sippy cup type lid might help with the sense of smell, since it keeps your nose out of the cup!

Dehydration is the cause of nausea more often than anything else. The 64 ounces are just a recommendation. I feel like crap unless I get twice that.

It's hard, but push the fluids. It can't hurt. Try hot, cold, flavored -- whatever it takes. It gets better, and you are still fresh out of surgery, relatively speaking.

I hope you feel better Lina. I take 2 Pepcid AC every morning first thing. Could not live without, maybe if your doctor allows you to take 2 it might help.

Does "Gravol" equal Compazine? Because there is a newer, better one. At least here in the states. It's expensive but it doesn't make you tired at all. It's brand name is Zofran, I've got no idea if there is a generic or what it's name is but it was a game changer for me.

Also, and this is going to sound weird, but back before Zofran someone told me to drink Snapple yellow lemonade. It actually worked. I'm pretty sure it was just a placebo thing but at that time I didn't care. A couple of ounces of that stuff and I was fine for the duration. The diet variety didn't do it so you'd be drinking some of your calories but OMG was it worth it.

Good luck - try everything people tell you on this thread. You'll find something.

PS: I honestly am not as crazy as I sound. Most days.

Gravol is essentially Dramamine - dimenhydrinate. It's the Canadian version :) Just an otc anti-nauseant. I've been trying all the options for the last few weeks after picking up a stomach virus.

Any lemon type thing works for nausea caused by lack of stomach acid . I like lemon juice in seltzer , lime in wine with seltzer lol

I found keeping the white peppermint tic tacs handy helped. sucking on them was enough to ebb the tide.
