Your WLS story... in 3 words!

Last week at work we did an ice breaker. We had to describe our work year so far in 3 words. It was pretty entertaining, so I thought it might be fun to try it to describe our lives as WLS patients.

After your 3 words, you can elaborate a little to tell us more.

Here are a few examples:

  • Harder than expected.
  • Weight falling off.
  • I hate carbs.

Anyway, you get the idea! I will post mine below.

Here is mine!

Revision saved me.

I had my LapBand for 6 years and was sick almost the entire time. I aspirated acid in the middle of the night on my very first fill, and it went downhill from there. Even though I lost a lot of weight and kept it off, I was throwing up and miserable most of the time. I am so grateful for my revision to RNY!

Everything is easier.

Bending over, driving, cooking, sleeping, showering, walking, using (some stupidly small) stalls in public restrooms.. are all so much easier.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

Regained.my.life.

I was always an outgoing person and did things even though I was morbidly obese...yes even joining bootcamp kickboxing at over 300lbs...but realized I was spending more and more time on the couch and the sidelines.... I realize even more than ever - now that I am on the other side- how true that was.

Reset button pressed.

I desperately wanted to go back to before I had gained weight and tell younger me all about carbs, intermittent fasting, and emotional eating. WLS has given me the chance to reset my metabolism so that I can use what I know now to stay a normal weight for life. It's as close to a fresh start as possible and I'm so grateful.
