When I was trying to get my family to like random greens we'd get in our CSA box, the go to would be to sauté them with bacon. Worked like a charm every time :D

I have yet to meet a pig who handed me a package of bacon voluntarily... jes saying.

There is a type of bacon developed where i was born ( Communist Eastern Europe) called Mangalica ... which is from a hairy pig that is half (great tasting lean muscular and giant sized up to 900 lbs ) wild boar half rapidly weight increasing domesticated pig. Mangalicas are usually free ranging woods-raised and organically fed or free ranged also due to the needs and instincts of their wild genes. I wouldn't begin to understand how the farmers re-catch them for slaughter ... boars especially big male ones are extremely aggressive and dangerous .

The properties of this ( extremely tasty ) Mangalica bacon fat are supposed to be that its much kinder to the human body, discouraging strokes, heart disease etc.

Even Anthony Bourdain loved Mangalica products in his episode on Vienna.

In Hungary the ( mostly female, ridiculously underpaid by American standards ) .. but very caring doctors did a big study on Mangalica bacon eaters- there was no significant reduction in heart related disease despite everyone?s hopes . The Mangalica eaters ate a LOT MORE bacon and pork belly it turned out because it was delicious and they had the excuse that it was good for them- so they derived no measureable benefit.

Hmmm. My favorite snack for what its worth is just plain roasted baby Brussels sprouts .

Sweet, tasty crunchy.
