I have heard such varied views about full fat dairy ! I personally stick to nonfat whenever possible but also understand that I get a huge percentage of my daily calories from fat free powdered milk nonfat cheeses and yogurt and even fat free half and half .

i have tried to stop dairy to lose that last ten lbs... felt very calcium-deprived.

Your experience?

I think there are a few approaches that can work to lose/not gain weight and the key is to pick one and stick to it. If you want to eat low fat, that's fine, as long as you count calories and stay within your goal. If you want to eat full fat, that's fine, as long as you count carbs or calories and stay within your goal. I personally choose full fat and low carb because I believe it is a healthier way to eat.

do you have constpation issues? I never went fat free because I've read the fat can help with being regular. . I'll do 2% dairy. Before WLS I did 1%. I eat a fair amount of yogurt and cheese, but not milk. I'd say they account for 30% of my daily calories. You've got me curious though and I want to look at it more closely.

I absolutely never have constipation issues from trying to eat low fat.

Honestly I have to admit because of my job at least 50% of my meals are either catered or take-out so when i eat fat free at home and in coffee type drinks im just lowering the overall fat intake not actually eating none at all.

Guutgrrl, how long have you been trying to lose the last 10 pounds? Could it be that there are other culprits that are holding you back from your goal? Drinking empty calories could be sabotaging your efforts. What kind of exercise do you do? Do you like to dance?

I've been eating more full fat dairy lately because it sticks with me longer. I just account for it in my daily calorie budget (I focus on calories now more than anything else - although I do aim for 100+ grams of protein a day)

I lost 12 lbs and I did it while eating and cooking with full fat dairy. I don't eat A LOT of it at a time, but I do exclusively use full fat cream, half and half, cheese, milk, sour cream, cream cheese, and butter. With yogurt, I'll use any fat content as long as it's nice, thick plain Greek yogurt like Fage. I made my own yogurt for over a year, but recently stopped. I'm just not eating or using it like I had been.

I limit my carb intake to the carbs from I get from lactose, my calcium supplement, and the few low carb veggies I eat. Everything else is meat with a few mushrooms tossed in occasionally. It's working for me.

I woke up in between a memory and a dream...

I eat full fat everything. It hasn't hindered my weight loss or maintenance.

Low fat is a nutritional myth. To compensate for lower fat, extra carbs are added. Fat is healthier than those carbs.

Fat is the only macro that does not spike blood pressure OR insulin. It keeps us satiated longer than any other macro. It keeps constipation at bay, and is great for skin and hair.

And it's delicious.

Fat contributes to satiety and our bodies need it for optimal health (cognitive and physical). It also makes food taste good.

This means that, when I have a diet containing fat, I feel more satisfied on multiple levels than if I were to try to avoid it. Full fat dairy does not, as you claim, keep me 50 pounds heavier.
