Enjoying food after WLS
Eating well does not me eating large; this is a point that was often made in our doc's support group classes - quality over quantity
Even at close to 13 years out, my wife is disappointed if she can't get three meals out of a typical restaurant meal - don't be afraid of asking for a to go box!
I usually take the French Onion soup packaged to go and have it for breakfast, with a little of the leftover steak or rib roast added. I often get the bigger cuts just so I have more to take home to use in my lunch salads.
A non-food restaurant quirk is that booths are often too large, and we keep shoving the table back and forth because neither of us is close enough (or we just sit on the same side...)

Congrats on your anniversary!
A little over nine years out now and a nice dinner always provides leftovers for another meal for me. A not-super-expensive dinner may end up providing more than two more meals. (I will never understand how less money ends up providing more food. It must be something about the quality to volume ratio). Another bonus for me is that hubby and I end up sharing one entrée more times than I ever would have imagined.
There is definitely something to be said too about knowing you only have room for a limited number of bites of food. You learn to think a bit about how you want to spend those bites.
Thanks for thinking to share your thoughts on your special meal here. It's kind of like the food funeral thing. You get this irrational fear that you'll never eat delicious food again. It's good for newbies to see that is not the case.
Happy Anniversary Julie! It sounds like you had a wonderful celebration.
I was thinking about the many times when I ask for a restaurant recommendation and I am told to go to restaurant X because they have huge portions. As the others have said here, huge portions doesn't mean quality or enjoyment. High end restaurants typically have very small portions so each dish can be thoroughly savored and enjoyed. Our WLS allows us to eat that way all the time: What tastes the best, in small amounts. It is actually one of the biggest benefits IMO. I enjoy food far more now than I did pre-op.

Yes, this is how I am too. Since I have limited quantity, I care a lot more about quality. A few bites of something amazing is much better to me now :)

Aww, thanks for the anniversary wishes, everybody! Dinner was doubly special because our son is now old enough to go to "Parents' Night Out" at Gymboree, so this was our first real date night in about a year and a half! :-D

The one thing we don't realize until we are well into weight loss is you start to live life as it was meant to be lived. So much time revolved around food before surgery and then once you start losing you are so busy you will find food is not the focus it was before surgery. So you will enjoy food again but it won't be the center of your world any longer....
