Good morning! Happy New years!

I see alot of posters use the tickers for their weight loss..I don't b/c

A)I don't know what to put as a goal and

B)I can't figure the darn things out..lol!

My question is..Did you and your dr set your goal? Did you make one alone, etc? My surgeon asked me at my first consult with him where did I ultimately want to be. I didn't and still don't have a clue b/c I've not been at a normal weight since I was a kid.

So my real answer was to be able to ride the Superman at 6 flags and Zipline

My surgeon does not set goals. He lets you know what the averages are to set expectations as to what you might expect.

I encourage you to be flexible with your goal weights. It's so hard to know at the outset, but in the end you can lose however much you want to lose.

Even as I lost an got to my initial goal weight, I was still unsure of where I should end up. For me, getting a DEXA scan as I got to a lower weight was super helpful as it gave me a very reliable measure of my body fat (which is much better than just BMI, which is, again, just averages).

From there I was able to eventually set my "final" goal / maintenance weights.

In the end - don't stress too much about goal weights, just follow your plan and you will be successful.

Thanks! Yeah I'm not stressed about it at all. I'm verrrrrry laid back lol! I just was wondering who and how the goals were set and if they were! Like I said I'm just ready to run circles around my family at 6 flags and not be the pack mule hauling all of their stuff around while they ride all day. lol!

We went for Holidays in the Park last week and my 15 year old was like "yeah next summer were going to be like mooooom can we PLEASE LEAVE. hah!

Out of curiosity Glen, what did you use for weight on that calculator? Your starting weight, or some other weight? I'm curious as it basis the ideal weight on what people at your age, weight and gender feel is most desirable. That can be considerably different depending on the weight you use.

If I use my starting weight (333), it says my ideal weight is 242. If I use my current weight (152), it says my ideal weight is 152.

If you scroll down, there are more weight calculators. The first is the "people's choice" which is what people think their ideal weight should be. So that one is more for curiosity than goal setting. It's interesting, since no matter what you set your weight for, the people's choice ideal weight will ALWAYS be different. I.e., people are never happy with their weight. (Although cool that your people's choice weight and actual weight match - I didn't think that was even possible!)

To figure out my ideal weight, I used the Hamwi calculation I think. Or one of those..

My surgeon gave me a goal at the top of the normal BMI range. I set a lower goal for myself after I achieved that, setting it at a weight I felt reflected the thinnest I had been as an adult. My current comfortable range is where my weight ended up once I was figuring out maintenance. At first,I thought this range was too thin but I became comfortable with it ultimately (have been in this range for 13 months now).

I put my goal weight where I thought it was a skinny number. For me the 120s sounded good. Healthy BMI was somewhere in the 140s. But the dexa scan showed I was at only 19% body fat at 140, and I lost down to 132-133 range. I stayed there for about 6 months but after a rotator cuff surgery, I gained 5 pounds from eating out of boredom, frustration and pain. Two years out and I am still learning or trying to learn new eating behaviors. Walking still bothers my shoulder as does most everything, so I eat to comfort myself. I digress.

I haven't changed my ticker, because even though it will be unhealthy for me, I really do want to see the 120s even if only for a month :)
