Frustrated
I am 4 days away from surgery and I've been on all liquid protein shake only pre op diet since 11/30. All I want to do is enjoy a salad or a slice of salmon and I can't and I'm frustrated. I had a really tough work and medical week because I do infusion every day and all I wanted was a small meal just to make myself feel better. I see other people don't have to do the liquid until 3-5 days before. Not sure why my surgeon chose this method. I'm hungry and frustrated. I'm not even drinking my required amount of shakes anymore. My surgeon prefers lean shake from GNC or muscle milk.
'Small meal to make myself feel better". Start to reshape that thinking. Food is not designed to make you feel better; it's for nutrients. I can't tell you how important keeping that at the forefront will be for long term success.
Liquid diet sucks, I did it for 14 days, pre-op. After the fourth day is got much easier to do- but still sucked. It's so worth it though. Don't compare yourself to others, or other programs, in any fashion. It will always leave you disappointed and off focus from where you need to be.
Re: your doc's preference on shakes, he doesn't have to drink them, you do. I'd branch out and try others. Syntrax chocolate truffle is my favorite- taste like chocolate milk.

Thank you Peachpie... I guess today was just one of those tough days but I got through it. I'm refocused with these words of encouragement.
I had two weeks of liquids pre-op and all I can say is that yes, the liquid died sucks.
I agree with Peachpie completely. Definitely work on the mindset of "food makes me feel better." If you haven't already started work with a therapist, I highly recommend it - mine has been invaluable to my success.

I also had 2-weeks of clear liquids with protein shakes diet before surgery, and an additional week after, so 3 weeks all together. It's hard but remember it's only 2 weeks out of your life, such a short time when you really think about it. Use this time to get an idea of the changes that you have to make in order for this surgery to be successful. The mental changes are much harder than the physical ones, and getting your mindset changed so that food isn't the thing you need to feel better is the first step. Head hunger will be one of the hardest things to deal with after surgery as well, but you just have to keep pressing on.
I hope that seeing a therapist is part of your post-op plan, because it will help so much with all that mental stuff. Best of luck to you!
This is the worst part. I literally did a total of six week liquid pre and post op. It was awful, but you'll get through, and it gets better. Hang in there!
Thank you everyone. I am refocused. I'm in this for the long haul. Just had a moment of weakness. But I'm over it.

I'm so glad you're refocused!!
I had a moment of weakness tonight with a low blood sugar. I went over the 800 calories but like you I am resetting and moving on. There will be hard days. In the end we are worth it!
