Sick?
So. My surgery is in ONE week and I woke up today with a tickle in my throat. As the day has worn on, it's become more of a sore throat. I don't have any other symptoms yet, but I am SO scared that I'm coming down with something and I will have to delay my surgery. I've jumped too many hoops and come so far and I start my liquid diet in the morning. I'm a teacher and half my kids have colds and strep throat right now, but I have been so very careful.
Please send some positive thoughts and vibes my way that this doesn't turn into some sickness that is going to delay my surgery. The only reason I can even afford it is that my deductible for the year was met a few months ago. My DW says that if I worry, I'm only going to make myself sick.

Call your surgeon's office. Ask them, specifically, what kind of symptoms on Surgery Day would mean you'd need to postpone.
I think I've read stories here of people with minor sniffles who've been just fine to go under the knife, so you may be just fine. No sense worrying when you can get official word, so call soon!

as long as you don't have a fever you should be good to go.
This happened to me before my first and third reconstructive surgeries. For me, this is a classic sign of sinus infection and I know, based on a history of sinus infections, that I need antibiotics. So both times I went to urgent care and said "give me a Z-pack now, pretty please." They did, and I was fine in time for surgery. SO ANNOYING.
Anyway - call your surgeon.

I'm so glad I took that suggestion to call. My doctor's nurse said that as long as I don't have a fever or serious infection, it should be fine. I got Zicam at Wal-Mart, and I've already had two doses.
I made an appointment with my PCP on Friday, and he will see if I need anything before Thursday. That's six whole days before my surgery, so I'm feeling MUCH better about the situation now.

Try to sleep well, stay active, and drink plenty of water! I think they are more concerned with breathing issues when you're sick, or vomiting with the flu. I highly doubt a sore throat would delay surgery. If it gets any worse I would ask your doctor.
