When Googling a bit of information for a friend, I came across this manual from the bariatric program at the Cleveland Clinic, Florida. This is a wonderful reference, especially for people who are considering surgery and need to research. It has information on:

  • Advantages and drawbacks to RNY and VSG
  • What vitamins and doses you'll need after surgery
  • Comparison of stats on different brands of protein powder
  • List of ideas for "clear liquid" stage
  • Tips for lifetime success after surgery

For the most part this looks like excellent information, but under VSG it says "Considered investigational". I don't believe that is the case or Insurance likely wouldn't cover it without a fight. I checked the date on the document and it was 9/16, so I wonder why it states that?

LIZ - perhaps not enough "years" of post op stats, for THEIR use. Some studies require up to 10 years of data - sometimes even more

When I was researching surgery, 16 years ago, NOWHERE was anything about a VSG mentioned, and my insurance (Aetna, at the time, said NO NO NO, to the DS). I could have RNY or Lap Band, because those were the ones they had "long term stats data" on
