Post Turkey Day Roll Call - how did you do?
Hi Everyone
Well turkey day is over and let's share what worked and what didn't. The most lasting weight loss surgery lessons I learned were from postings our community shared.
This was my first Thanksgiving cooking since moving here to NorCal. I was nervous and really don't know why as I have cooked Thanksgiving meals for years. Making an entire meal healthy can be challenging but not impossible.
Turkey was basted with olive oil and fresh thyme.
Baked sweet potatoes
Roasted brussel sprouts
Veggie loaded dressing
I offered fresh fruit for desert but still made my Grandma's egg custard pie. Long term out, if you have that control, indulge. I did, small but yummy piece of pie
Scale stayed the same WooHoo! Success! How about you my friends?
I forgot the deviled eggs!!!

My mom cooked and it wasn't healthy. I snacked on cheese ,olives, pepperoni , and a vegetable tray. For dinner I ate turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, and cornbread stuffing. I ate what I wanted. For dessert, I had orange fluff and buckeye pie. I skipped all the casseroles cause I don't like them.Over all for the week, I lost 2 lbs.
Thanks for sharing Ajeffries
I find when I am where there isn't much to keep me on track, my go too's are non carb items and protein, protein, like deviled eggs and turkey. Sounds like you enjoyed and still had a loss. Did you run 12 miles afterwards? LOL

I had to cancel Thanksgiving due to my recovery, so I spent the holiday feeling bummed.
We're postponing the Thanksgiving "feast" until we're together with my mom at the end of December. Instead, Art smoked brisket (yum) and I ate brisket with some homemade BBQ sauce and homemade coleslaw. Super tasty. Dessert was some vanilla ice cream and a two-bite brownie (the store-bought kind).
I haven't weighed myself since the day before surgery. Which is strange... I need to at some point, and to get back in the habit, but it seems pointless now due to all the swelling.

I cook all our family traditional recipes and it was wonderful. Enjoying recipes filled with memories of my mom and her fabulous cooking is really important to me, so changing over to healthier versions is not something I'm willing to do (though nothing we have is over the top unhealthy). My restriction is good, so it didn't let me do any damage. I did plan for a piece of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving, but ended up having 3 pieces over 2 days. Oops. At that point I had to fly home preventing me from eating any more.
Leaving the leftovers in MI helped a lot! I did not gain anything over my 4 days of holiday travel and was down 0.4 today. I think that is a first for me for any Thanksgiving!
