Pre-op Shakes

Hi

Completely new here. I had my pre-op appointments this week and as of yesterday I have to drink 5 bariatric advantage shakes per day until my surgery. I am also allowed 4 meals in this time frame. What were some of your favorite shake variations?

I purchased the vanilla and the strawberry. So far I have done almond milk/strawberry/ice, skim milk/vanilla/sliced banana/ice, and for lunch today I have mixed with sugar free pudding and its in the freezer.

I wish there was a plain powder to mix with soups for a more savory meal but that was not offered at my appoinment, and I don't see it on their website.

Thanks!

Mio drops are good to add to vanilla shakes, especially strawberry and orange.

Try adding PB2 peanut butter powder to chocolate shakes, too, that's really good.

There are lots of types of unflavored protein powders out there that you can add to soup. I like the Quest brand:

Thanks! I'm going to call the office to see if I am allowed an unflavored protein to add to soups or broths. The only options they gave in office were Vanilla, Chocolate, and strawberry and I didn't think to ask.

If you do use unflavored or chicken soup protein powders, remember not to add them to very ho****er or soup. The protein will seize up and clump so that it is inedible. Wait until it's a little cooler, warm rather than hot.

They told me that it has to strictly be the ones they had me purchase there from bariatric advantage

Bariatric Advantage makes a savory chicken flavored protein powder.

I wonder if a frother would help? I use a frother to mix up titanium dioxide when I make soap. Just a thought.

Hi Stacy,

The manufacturers warn not to use very ho****er, as "texture may be affected". I'll say! The protein cooks instantly if, for instance, you use boiling water, rendering the whole result clumpy, disgusting and inedible. You can experiment if you'd like, but it is easy to keep liquids no hotter than 140 degrees. That's warm enough to taste comfortably warm to hot, but not scalding, and in that range, the powders disperse silkily without trouble.

I can't do the sweet protein shakes. So I buy Isopure Unflavored Protein and mix it with anything warm and liquid (chicken broth, veg broth, beef broth, FF and LF soups, Sam's Choice (Walmart) has a vegan protein broth that is quite tasty and is very low cal and has added protein as a bonus. Celebrate also makes a tomato soup "shake" and a chicken soup "shake" and I've also heard that Unjury has the same and is supposed to be very good.

coconut milk or cashew milk is nice. There's also some nice sugar free syrups out there. I get mine on Amazon.
