Feeling hungry?
I'm two days post-op and not even thinking food yet, but am getting in a couple of shakes in today and plenty of fluids. I'm wondering what other's experiences have been along the lines of when you actually started feeling hungry
nearly 8 years out and no hunger.
I think it depends on the type of surgery. I had the DS 14 years ago and definitely feel hunger. I know the difference between head hunger and real hunger. I wake up hungry. Also, if I don't eat something often enough, I feel real hunger. I typically snack on something every couple of hours.
You'll learn the difference. It's part of the whole learning process of living with WLS.

Sadly I didn't document the day I started feeling hunger. And, honestly, I never felt hungry pre-op because that would have implied that I stopped eating long enough to let my body get hungry. Which I didn't.
Now I do get hungry, but I feel like I get hungry when a "normal" person should get hungry. For example, if I haven't eaten for 8 hours and I went on a 3 mile run... I get hungry. Because, hey, I SHOULD be hungry under those conditions, right?
For me the issue is always about feeling the compulsion to eat and not about feeling hungry.

I am a little over three weeks out from sleeve and I do feel physical hunger and have since about day 4. However, if I stick to my three protein forward meals and two snacks a day, the hunger I do have goes away for several hours when I eat. I haven't had any carbs yet, but some days I do feel it more often or more strongly than other days, but I stick to plan and it's totally manageable.
On the other hand, my DH was sleeved in April and has zero physical hunger. He said the only time he actual may feel hungry is after a hard work out.
And yes, I am extremely jealous of him for that.

I am a little over a year out from surgery. I get real hungry if i miss my meal times, and it ain't head hunger. I eat five times a day, sometimes six depending on how hard I am working. I concentrate on protein, and if my stomach starts rumbling between meal times, I drink some water or decaf coffee. I've done very well with this system.
I am 9 years out and have been hungry since day 1. It did not prevent me from getting to goal or staying here.
Hunger or lack of hunger does not determine whether or not you will reach your goal weight.
