Feeling hungry?
The only time I feel hunger is whenever I had too many carbs the day before. Usually I wake up hungrier than usual. Whenever I kept carbs low & stayed protein forward, dense protein, not bars/shakes, the hunger pangs was very little to non existent. I'm over 3 years out.

I'm 9 days post op and I have actual hunger pangs every morning. Definitely not head hunger. I'm getting 60 grams of protein in and at least 64 oz of fluid.
Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium? Hunger at this point is more likely due to acid or dehydration. Or it's just your stomach lying to you because the nerves were severed so it's not like they can tell you the truth anyway.

I take liquid protonix twice daily. I didn't consider acid indigestion. I don't get any burning or reflux like symptoms. Just an emptiness with some gurgling noises. Occurs mostly in the morning after I haven't put anything in my stomach all night. I'll ask my surgeon tomorrow when I see him for my post op appt. Thanks!
You're welcome. Acid can be "silent" without the traditional symptoms.
Are you drinking during the night? That might help too.

Okay I will definitely research that. Not drinking at night. I read something on aspirating at night and it has me afraid to eat/drink after a certain time (about 7pm). You think drinking at night is okay?
I've never heard of not eating/drinking before bed unless reflux is an issue and, if you had reflux, you wouldn't have gotten the VSG.
Most of us sleep with a glass/bottle by our bed and drink every time we wake up to go to the bathroom or to blow our nose or whatever we wake up in the middle of the night to do. Hydration is important and going the whole night without hydration isn't the best for us - especially so newly post-op.
