As many others plan, I eat the turkey primarily to fill me up, but then have tastes of my favorite other things. That way I don't feel deprived and can really enjoy the holiday along with everyone else.

I'll be almost 6 weeks out of my VSG by Thanksgiving. I was thinking about what to do and how to make sure I could still enjoy the day without feeling pressure (internal, not external) to eat things I know I shouldn't. My husband and I have decided that instead of going to his godmother's house like usual (it's basically a food and wine extravaganza), we'll go to my mother's house. She's 15 years out of RNY and remembers what it was like navigating food during the first few months. I plan on having some turkey, then some veggies and a bite of mashed potatoes if there's room. Mom said she'll have a sugar free, crustless cheesecake too in case I want dessert later. I imagine I'll only fit in a bite of that too.

Sounds like a "perfect" plan! Congratulations on your recent surgery.
