How common is diarrhea?
I've never had any problems with diarrhea unless I ate too much sugar. I do, however, have problems with constipation, although that has improved since I eat more green veggies.

Im only 10 days out so I'm no expert but I was sitting on the toilet at midnight googling "giant poop stuck". I got some Miralax today and really hope that never happens again. I too worried about diarrhea and was surprised to be given colace in he hospital but, apparently the other end of the spectrum is also common and Im in that group. I hope the fear doesnt stop you.
I do vividly remember thinking that I was giving birth again directly after surgery, the pain was ridiculous. The combination of pain pills and surgery is horrible for constipation.
I think I literally cried trying to 'go'!!!

I had IBS-D prior to surgery (although it really turned out to be fructose malabsorption). I found that I experienced "liquids in, liquids out" which on liquids, but never in a way I couldn't control it. And, once I finished the liquid diet phases, I haven't have problems.

As long as I don't eat sugar alcohols, I have daily normal BMs. I do like to eat things with sugar alcohols however, so I often have mild diarrhea that is completely under control - no chance of messing my pants. The one food that I can't eat for fear of uncontrollable poo is macadamia nuts.
I did have diarrhea in the beginning not ore-surgery but post. I figured liquid in liquid out. I never felt like I was going to have an accident. About 6 months out things went the other way. I think more people struggle with constipation.

I've never had a single instance of diarrhea since surgery (or even in the pre-op diet). My bowels are regular, I don't even have constipation issues that plague many.
In the first 3 or so months- I would have loose Bowels from eating fatty foods- but not diarrhea. Even that was maybe 3 occasions.
