I finally started running/jogging. I did it this morning at 7 am before work. I was not fast, and I could not go for a long time. It was like 30 second intervals, then slowing to wal****il I caught my breath, then running again. I only managed half a mile lol, but I felt so proud. All my life I HATED running, now I'm actively trying to get better at it! Though I have to admit I was a bit self conscious since it was around a lake at a park. There were other Sunday morning joggers, I must have looked silly!

Go you!! I keep trying to like running, but I've had zero luck over the past few years. High-five to you!

I feel the same way when I'm on my bike sometimes. My mantra is, "it doesn't matter how fast you go, it just matters that you go at all!"

I kept repeating "no one cares, no one is watching" over and over again! It was probably true. I don't think people watch as much as I think they do lol

When I started running post op, I found a street near my house that has about a mile of woods with no houses, and ends in a dead end. I deliberately went there to run in private because I was so paranoid about people watching. Once I could go about a mile on my own, I made my friend watch me on a hotel treadmill to confirm that I didn't look like an asshole. THEN I was able to run in public. So kudos to you for being so brave and getting out there :)

I have to say that part about the friend watching you made me laugh out loud in my office. Good idea! I was walking home from work on Hallowe'en, and I must have been excited to walk around with my daughter while she trick-or-treated. There I was walking, bundled up, full hiker backpack on and umbrella in hand, and suddenly I had accidentally broken out in a full-on sprint. My football coach always got a chuckle out of me at practice back in high school, because for my size I was actually fairly quick. He always told the guys at practice to get the hell out of the way if I was coming. Hahaha

I was astonished that it wasn't killing me. I ran about 1/4 mile at a time, slowed to a walk, realized my chest hadn't exploded so I started up again. It wasn't the most comfortable with the backpack, but it planted the seed that maybe, if my knees will cooperate, I might go out at night for a little jog/run tour. For the first time after that sort of thing, I didn't need to ice my knees.
