PCP discouragement

Well, since she was supportive to the idea previously, I would be assuming she may be against you getting surgery in Mexico instead of locally, and is ready to warn you about the dangers of crossing the border to have a procedure in a country where you have no rights. Make sure you have your assurances together that the surgeon and facility you're going to has a good reputation and great (American) reviews and real recommendations from real people (I say this because the less-scrupulous foreign docs pad their reviews with fake accounts).

Also be read to discuss what you need from her, as in what kinds of nutritional bloodwork you will need, and any schedule for it the first year.

I'm so glad to have several of you tell me to be informed and be ready to share good information about Mexico. I think I did not start our conversation right and so I need to be ready to go back and start over with better clarity and good information.

My vote is more of the fear about you going to Mexico. Not sure which practice in Mexico you are considering but research them well. Be sure to check out social media too... see what is out there on them.

I thought I'd give you all an update! I visited my Dr this week and it was such a positive conversation. Without going into a huge story, what she needed was to see me face to face so she could go over all of her concerns, make sure I knew risks, see that I was not making an uninformed decision. She spoke frankly from her perspective as a Dr. I listened and asked questions.

Then she listened and asked questions. She needed to hear my reasons, my desperation, my commitment, and once she did, she was supportive of my decision! It may not be her first choice, but she is with me. We talked about so many things and I felt like she heard me very well. I think our communication gap was just that and I'm so grateful. I panicked too soon. :/

I'm grateful you all encouraged me to go ahead and speak with her because it all turned out so well. I want her on my side and she is.

It turns out that she is not afraid of Mexico! She said it is a little uncomfortable simply because she isn't familiar with their protocols, etc. but she is not worried about the care I will get.

Whew!
