i have my appointment with the cardiologist tomorrow for a clearance for surgery. I was calm at first but I am so nervous now!

what should I expect? I am thinking an ekg or stress test. I had an ekg done last year for eye surgery.

For me it was just an EKG, and I actually did that with my PCP, not my cardiologist.

I had a nuclear stress test. My surgeon required it for anyone over 50, or anyone who'd had heart issues in the past. They gave me an IV (with some dye or something in it, I believe) and then stuck me in a tube that looked sort of like an MRI machine (my head didn't go in, though, so it should be fine if you're one of those who hates MRI machines). They ran a bunch of tests and took a bunch of pictures of my heart while I just lay there. Then they gave me an injection with some sort of stimulant in it that simulates heavy-duty exercise, then stuck me back in the tube and ran all the tests again.

the only part I didn't like was getting that stimulant. Your heart starts racing and I got a headache. I was worried I was going to have a heart attack or something - it was a really bizarre feeling. But it was fine and the feeling only lasts a few minutes.

I had high BP before surgery and had already worked with a cardiologist. He checked over my records (EKG and treadmill test), said everything looked fine to him, and ordered a second EKG just to be extra sure. Easy enough!

Usually it is just an EKG. If you have heart disease in your family they may do extra tests.

Nothing to be nervous about. You just lay there with stickers all over you for 5 minutes. Lol

I get to have an echo, x-ray and a stress test...even though my ekg was good.
