The chance for a meal of a lifetime.

My partner and I are considering a trip to visit his parents in May and, assuming it's open from renovations at that point, he has suggested that we go to Noma in Copenhagen (in conjunction with fulfilling my lifelong dream of going to LEGOLANDOMGYAY).

Noma is a molecular gastronomy Nordic cuisine restaurant, ranked #1 in the world for a number of years. It serves about a billion small plates over the course of 3 hours or so. It's hella expensive.

Prior to my WLS, he and I ate at Maaemo and Alinea which both have similar concepts and price tags. Both were super phenomenal amazing experiences and we enjoyed ourselves immensely.

On the one hand, I feel like I'd been a fool to pass up on the chance to eat at Noma. On the other hand, I worry that it wouldn't be an enjoyable experience with my altered anatomy. (For Lance's part, he sees zero issue in paying for it even if I only eat half of each course, because he sees the experience itself as what matters most, not how much food I eat.)

Have you done a billion-course tasting menu since WLS? How was it? (I'm considering doing this at a local restaurant between now and then, to get a better feel for how it'll go.)

Would you do this if you had the chance? Would you do this if you had the chance and price truly wasn't a concern? (Pretend, for example, that you won a free meal via a contest or something, and it was non-transferrable so you couldn't give it to someone else anyway.)

I agree with Lance--it's the experience that matters. You already sound super psyched just at the idea of going, so clearly you should go. Nibble here, nibble there and soak in the rest.

Me, personally, I have no idea what molecular gastronomy is, so I wouldn't go. What really caught my eye is that you're going to Legoland!! So awesome! That's what I would do! LOL

Super excited about LEGOLAND!! I've wanted to go there since I was a little kid. We are a big Lego household. :D

I would do it. It's about the experience, and even though you have altered anatomy you can still enjoy good food, just less of it. I'd do it if I had to pay for it.

We're going to Scotland next summer and I expect that I will eat some haggis... though I doubt it will be as enjoyable as your food experience, LOL!

I saw a segment about Noma on Anthony Bourdain's show I believe, it looks absolutely amazing. I would do it in a heartbeat, it's one of those once in a lifetime chances. Very exciting Gwen!

I think actually fits in perfectly to how I view food now. I eat it for the quality, not the quantity. I have been known to totally reject something when the first bite doesn't make me truly happy. This sounds like a way to get a small amount of really great food. Do it.

Also, so jealous of you going there in the first place!

Over the entire meal, you're getting a fair amount of food. Just in the form of fifty billion little things :) But yes, aside from the number of dishes, this is how I eat too. I was a snob about wanting to maximize taste pre-WLS and now I'm even more so. I don't have stomach space to waste on things that don't taste awesome!

at $296 a plate? Not for me - I'm too much of a tightwad. But if I wasn't, I would probably go for the experience. Some of their dishes look pretty "out there", though - and I'm a fairly adventurous eater!

I think the price has increased since then as well. Good thing we don't drink alcohol because the wine pairing is almost $200 extra.
