Come on over to the Ontario forum. Given it is OHIP covered things are a little different than in the States where there are options of different surgeons. There are some members who have gone through the process and were able to have the sleeve done due to meds. They may be able to provide some advice. There are also quite a few members from Toronto Humber and can give you more center specific information.

Your weight history also influences which surgery is the best - I did not see that in your post.

I suggest that you, and anyone else contemplating WLS or plastic surgery, get a second opinion, whether you think you need it or not. It sounds as though it would be especially helpful for you.

You might also want to get clarity from your PCP or your surgeon on which meds might be elimintated when you acheive a normal/almost normal BMI. The lasix and doxasin, usually used for hypertension, might drop off and the Tecta is a PPI, so that might also go. I am no expert on Lupus, but having fewer meds to take makes life simpler all around.

Do you know what is causing your acid reflux. I had a hiatal hernia that was FIXED during my WLS surgery. Ending the heartburn was almost as good as losing 100+ pounds.

Good Luck on you WL journey.

Hi Jhadere, Although I am not an expert, my cousin underwent gastric bypass and she was approaching her target in about 8 months time. Also, I would advise considering side effects of each prior to taking the decision. But anyways, GB has been around longer. Its results and complications have been studied and its benefits proven. Gastric bypass is more complicated, has a slightly higher overall risk profile but it does produce more weight loss.

NIH has published an interesting research article, where they talk about the impact of GB & GS on test subjects. But despite all these information, it is advised to consult a specialist. You should consider consulting a doctor for second opinion. This might help you take an informed and correct decision.

Are you experiencing any side effects with Prednizone ?
