Pedal exerciser
My aunt had one and loved it. My cousin also used to use one at her desk at the office and really liked it because her job was so sedentary and it gave her a chance to move her legs at work.
There are a lot of different brands and some are junky whereas others are more solid. Just check the reviews on Walmart.com or Amazon before you choose one and it should be OK.

I've tried several, including fancy ones and cheap ones. Not worth the money, IMO. Yes they'll get you moving, but they won't increase your heart rate enough to actually "count" for anything.
I also had a very difficult time concentrating while using the pedal machine. I couldn't even answer mindless emails, so I don't think I'd be able to handle knitting either-- but then again, I have to work really hard at knitting!

I think it helps with blood circulation, but not sure you get any real health benefit other than that. I am with the others who said they are not coordinated enough to do this and anything else at the same time.

I have a treadmill desk and love it when I?m on long conference calls but not presenting. I find the key to using it when I need to type something (e.g. editing/creating documents) is to slow the belt down because if you are walking too fast it is hard to control the mouse - LOL. Basically, it gets me moving (slowly) when I would otherwise be sitting most of the day in front of the computer.
I bought one when I was still MO, thinking it was 'something' while I was watching TV. Unfortunately it always slid away from me and didn't stay in one place even on carpet. It really was worthless.
