Hey body, what's with you?

My body is annoying me. I am pre-op and my second appointment with the surgeon is tomorrow.

I use myfitnesspal and sat down to write it out on the plans the doctor gave me. I realized I have been eating single serving bags of chips....A LOT! I feel so stupid but i'm not going to let it hold me back. I will no longer eat those evil things(evil for me). It is so easy to log it on my iPad but when you write it out you realize...Whoa! While the calories have stayed ok and the fat is ok too, the carbs are something I need to work away from. Keto tends to make my stomach upset. I have a sneaking suspicion that my gallbladder needs to be removed. Any time I have to much fat it bothers me.

I have also been attending the physical therapy sessions. Tomorrow is my fourth one. a whole hour of kick my butt work outs. Elliptical, yeah they suck but in a good way. I have been able to do a measly 5 minutes straight. I am able to do 20 mins on the sitting cross trainer thing, which I wish I could afford one...lol I am doing weights.

I weighed in yesterday at my third session. I weighed 332.6 on the big scale. I weighed this morning on my scale and it was 327. I had weighed monday on my scale and weighed 330. I'm a little confused. Also I ate PERFECTLY yesterday and my blood sugar this morning was get this...199!? So very confusing but I am not going to let it stop me or slow me down. I used to live in the past mistakes. Not going to allow it.

I do have a question for you folks. What do you eat when you want a salty snack? I've tried pork rinds but really don't like them. Also for those that like jerky, what kind do you like? I can't do super hard jerky and i'm looking for lower carb snacks.

Thanks for reading

Mel

Two answers about the snacks:

  1. Snacks are completely unnecessary and detrimental to weight loss. If you can find a way to eat only meals, no snacks or only one snack per day, that would be much more in line with a weight loss/maintenance lifestyle.
  2. When I'm not perfect and want to snack and am going to do it even though I know better, I like seaweed snacks, kale chips, and slices of cucumber with salt and pepper :)

Whether snacks are ok depends on your surgeon and his plan. Many suggest less calories at meal time and eating something every 4 hours to keep your blood sugar stable. Follow whatever guidelines you have been given. Im 5 years out and if I eat my last meal at 6 my blood sugar is dangerously low by morning so I've been told to eat a small snack at bedtime and have been doing this all along. I lost 158 pounds and have have been that same weight for over 41/2 years so it is possible to eat snacks and lose and maintain weight. Snacks are not evil--too many calories are the issue. Follow your surgeons directions but if snacks are suggested try protein items like yogurt, cottage cheese or jerky or meat sticks.

I think there is a difference between 'snacking' and 'planned snacks'... I eat 4-5 smaller meals a day. It keeps my blood sugar more level, and keeps my mind happier.

So, personally, 'snacking' is really up to each individual, I think.

Also, being in 'control' while you eat works better for me. If I have it planned out, and I eat 'on plan', without feeling out of control, I'm much happier with myself. It's the out of control eating that bothers me the most.

To the OP, do what works best for you, but do it in a controlled way. Plan for whatever you eat. Plan it out in advance, and know your calories/carbs before you even eat a thing that day. It really helps a lot of people to do it that way... whether it's 2-3 or 6 meals a day.

I've been planning in snacks since just a few weeks post-op without issue. All my snacks go into MFP at the beginning of the day and I portion them out.

I think of snacking as unplanned thoughtless extra meals. My definition of snacking seems to be different than everyone else's!

I knew what you meant! I think of "snacking" as grazing which is so easy to do. I am still bad at, but getting better. Story of my life lol. I do planned snacks. Like cheese in between lunch and dinner.

If you're diabetic, it can sometimes take 2 days for something bad you ate to reflect in your fasting blood sugar. Keep your carbs down, and unless it stays up, I wouldn't worry about it.

Just wanted to say just because you are eating lower carb doesn't mean you have to eat Keto. Eat as much fat as your body is comfortable with, within your guidelines.

I never ate pork rinds prior to WLS. I definitely had to kiss a few frogs before I found it brand I liked. Currently UTZ- buy the tub in Amazon.

For jerky I like Krave and Perky turkey jerky because they are softer.
