NSV - Finished my first 5K on Sat
Last month I started attending a patient-led WLS support group in my area, and they talked me into doing a 5K with them. It was a virtual 5K in support of http://www.wlsfa.org/about/mission-statement/ but our group does it together at a local trails park.
We all finished. My hubby did the 5K with us. My time was 47 minutes, making my pace about 14.7 ... I don't know if that's good or bad, but it sets my benchmark. :) I wasn't sure going into it that I could do it, but I finished, and that's amazing. I couldn't have done this a year ago, come hell or high water.
I have bad joints so I don't think I'll ever run in these things, and I don't know if I want to do "regular" 5Ks or not, but knowing I can do it is great.

CONGRATS!!!! 14.7 is just fine, for a beginner - MUCH better, than most--and way better, than MY first :)
A word of warning--walks/runs can be very addicting. I challenge you to go a "real" one. There's just something about the feel/smells/sounds of the crowd, etc. The Turkey Trot, Jingle Bell Run...races like that are GREAT starters, because they have folks of ALL activity levels, and are quick/pretty easy/go to good causes/have cool shirts

We Can Do Hard Things
LOL. My boss is a runner (training for a 1/2 marathon) and was SO excited to hear I was doing a 5K. She said she knows ALL the BEST ones in the area with the BEST SWAG. LOL.
Apparently I'm supposed to do the Hot Chocolate run in February. LOL.
All of my runner friends LOL'd when I said yeah I'm doing this thing, but this is NOT a gateway to me running. But fast walking a 5K, I can do that. :)
I won't have a lot of time this fall/winter because I'm finishing up my master's program. But I found a listing of all the local walk/runs and I'm amazed at how many there are in the area EVERY WEEKEND. I'll find the ones my friends want to do together, and the ones that I'm especially interested in their charity, and likely do a few a year.

WOOT! Great Job! Having a benchmark is great to work from if you decide you want to continue. Set goals. Surpass goals. you got this, girl! I know that.
I did a Color Run 5k in June. It was fun. Lots of music, people being happy, being covered in paint powder. My time for that one was about 39 minutes. I won't ever do another run (I've found my passion) but it can be addictive. My hubby ran his first 1/2 marathon a week ago and is doing another in about a month and a half.
Keep on losing!
