Help finding Replacement for Sundown Perfect Iron
Cannot find a recent discussion on the topic:
Help! I just went to re-order this product and see it has been discontinued. Alternatives are 6x more expensive or more.
I've been taking (4) doses of it a day (about 200mg daily)
Does anybody have an inexpensive alternative to perfect iron, carbonyl iron, bioavailable iron?
I do also take Preferrin Forte, heme prescription (high does 2x daily), but still need to supplement.
DebbersNJ are you anemic? You had the DS, right? If you are anemic, no amount of oral iron will help turn your numbers are - many DSers (including me) just simply don't absorb oral iron.
If you don't already have one, I suggest you find a good hematologist/oncologist who understands malabsorption (they may not know the DS but many are familiar because of the RNY). You may need iron infusions. A simple process that will fill your iron tank and probably stay filled for several years.
I've battled anemia since about 3 years post-op. Seems that I need infusions every 3-4 years. Last time it was simply two 15-minute infusions one week apart.

My rheumatologist sings the praises of Integra iron.

I ended up getting enough iron for my mild deficiency by switching to a good Bariatric vitamin with iron, so I didn't have to get this, but that was my next step if my levels didn't come up. My rheumy says this brand is better tolerated by most of her patients, and is effective on iron levels.
I don't know if it meets your price needs, but thought I'd pass it along. :)
Good luck!

Literally today was standing in line at the pharmacy and saw this on the shelf. It is carbonyl iron but smaller mg than my previous brand. Not sure how it compares economically but I was happy to find it. Do a search for it as you can find several sources with different pricing as well.
