Women's clothing sizes are larger now?

In high school in the 1960's I weighed 120 pounds and wore size 11/12. My friend was 90 pounds and wore size 7/8.

I've wondered the same thing myself. I know good and darned well I was NOT in a 14 the last time I was at this weight. At my lowest adult weight I was in a 10, and it was a TIGHT 10 and I was below where I want to get to and a full 35-40# less than I am now. I figured there was no way I'd see a 10 again, and was hoping for a 14, dreaming of a 12.

With today's sizes, I will probably get into a 10 when I make goal, and may even be flirting with single digits.

Craziness. :)

I think the industry is trying to accommodate the fact the average size/weights are higher now than in the 60's. I will never forget the first time I shopped in Chino's. Died and went to size heaven

My body is so funky right now - I was always a C or D cup even when I was tiny, then I had a mastectomy in 2011, and then in 2013 a reconstruction using belly fat. Wouldn't you know that the first fat my evil body decided to metabolize post RNY was the fat moved to my "boobs". Now I'm flat as a boy! So I'm a size small or even extra small (depending on the width of the sleeves) on top! My waist is right at 30 inches, and I'm not sharing my hips/butt but lets just say they're lagging in the weight loss game...

I'm wearing silicone "inserts" in my bras (and have a few well padded ones from Victoria's Secret) because I don't want to do breast augmentation and have them inside my body (and have to replace them in the future).

I've picked up a few packs of padded bras (regular and sports) for cheap from eBay. The up side is that they allow me we wear normal clothes and the padding kinda smushes my extra skin into the hint of cleavage :) They cost a few dollars each, so not exactly high tech but they work for the short run while I decide what to do.

When I had implants (right after mastectomy) it always felt like I had on an underwire bra. When they replaced the implants with my own body fat I realized how much of my discomfort had been due to the implants rather than just the relocation of my pec muscles.

The belly fat was a perfect solution, but as it was quickly metabolized when post RNY, that's that. It's worth it of course! But yeah, not excited about another major surgery, or about getting something else put inside my body.

Edited to add: I joked with my PS at the time of my mastectomy when I had to choose between silicon and sailien. I was like, "If we want something natural to ME inside my body, I should be able to choose between Olive Oil and Red Wine!"

Yup. Sizing has changed and it's different in every store. I live by size charts and can't buy anything in person unless I try it on first now.

"Vanity sizing" is also a thing. A size 10 from Banana Republic and a size 10 from Wal-Mart will fit VERY differently.

Yup. Last time I was at this size (11 years ago) I was a size 8/10 and now I am a solid size 4. Also, being low carb is great for eliminating belly bloat, and last time I was at this size I was vegetarian and eating almost exclusively carbs so that might be affecting the size difference a little bit.
