Ladies can you tell me the criteria by which I choose my protein powder? How much protein, fats, carbs, calories should it have?

You want 100 percent whey protein ISOLATE. It should have no added sugar or sugar alcohols. More premixed shakes will have other crap added to it, powders should not.

Look at the labels for Syntrax Nectars and Unjury. Those are good brands. If you see something else that you might want to try, compare the label to those two.

I started with Syntrax Nectar Unflavored, but I ended up using Isopure Zero Carb Unflavored, it's whey isolate, no carbs, no sweeteners, and I found it to be cheaper than either Syntrax or Unjury. My pocketbook made that decision!

Buy some single serve packets and taste things. I like some of the Quest flavors and I like the Optimum Gold Standard 100% Whey in Vanilla, which I get at Costco. Both are about 120 calories per scoop, 24g protein and about 2 grams of sugar. Check with your team too. Some docs have preferences on what protein to use.

Keep on losing!

I prefer unflavored protein. Good brands were already mentioned. I also like Unjury, though I feel, say, IsoPure is a good equivalent. Hydrolyzed protein is even more digestible than isolate, however it's more expensive and far more bitter. When I was having severe Celiac issues I had to use it years ago. Isolate is fine, though, for most people.

Unflavored is handy because you can add it to lots of stuff. They tell us to eat worthless stuff right out of surgery. Refried beans, for instance, which have the nutritional value of wet cardboard. Seriously, WTF refried beans? Avoid them if you can because they are a horrible choice anyway...

Post-op I'd take unflavored protein and added it to all my purees. This let me hit my protein goals easily. You can add it to a multitude of things.

In my Lazy Period I bought Premier Protein shakes as they are easy, taste well, and require no fuss. They are typically more expensive. Premier and IsoPure also make clear protein drinks that are a nice change of pace from the chocolate and vanilla varieties that are ever-pervasive.

I follow a ketogenic diet post-op. I also have a diagnosis of binge eating disorder. Feel free to ask me about either!
