Well, the response to the appeal came back today. He's been denied again. Apparently, and neither of us realized it, our insurance policy doesn't include the usual "BMI of 35 or higher with 2 comorbidities". Our policy just covers BMI of 40 and over, and a history of it for 5 years. I met those requirements, my hubby does not. He has had a BMI of about 36 to 39 for the last 10 years. He does not qualify under our insurance.
I'm disappointed for him. Time to reevaluate and see what his options are from here. He's out of town for the next few nights, so we'll have to talk about it at some other time.
I am so sorry to hear that.
Is Mexico WLS an option? Can you guys save or can he borrow against his 401 to have it done? I think Mexico for a VSG can be around 6-7 k. Maybe worth investment in his health.

I have brought it up to him before, back when the first denial came through. He didn't completely reject it outright, but we didn't talk about it enough in detail.
There is a chance that he may be changing jobs soon, going back to his former employer. That company's insurance covers the standard 35 to 40 with 2 comborbidities, unless they have changed their insurance since 2013. When I first started looking into surgery for myself we had the other policy, so I had checked on coverage.
I'm just going to back off of him about it, I don't want to overwhelm him, and I know I can get obsessive. I'm trying to let him deal with this **** on his own and just support him along the way.
Yea. Backing off may be a good move. So many of us dealt with post op remorse "buyers remorse", plus unless the person is dedicated 100% and then some, the recovery and diet post op can be brutal. Plus ... Even with being dedicated- regain during maintaining is a ***** Even when we really work hard and try to do everything per doc and nut advise.
I know I had significant regain in year 3-4 , that was a ***** to get rid of. And I was 110% dedicated. (If there is 110% is possible I was there)
It need to be his choice. 100%. Before and after.

More good news! Looks like we'll be switching from UHC to BCBS next year. We see decided tho get the insurance through my employer, because i know they cover WLS for my hubby, i have coworkers going through the process right now.
Open enrollment starts next week. The policy isn't as good overall, since itrs 80/20 and kite current insurance is 90/10. The maximum out of pocket is higher as well. But still cheaper than paying cash out of pocket totally.
All these ups and downs stress me out! Lol
