Latest DEXA Scan
Thought I would share my latest DEXA Scan for those of you who were interested. It's been 6 months since my last scan, and my weight has been quite consistent (1.2lbs heavier this time than last). However, my BF% is up some, which is alright as it was quite low the last time. In a nutshell, it appears I have gained 1.2lbs overall, but in reality I gained about 4.5lbs of fat and lost about 3lbs of lean mass.
I always love seeing the results with the comparative from the last scans. I am actually scheduled for a DEXA at the EMU office next Tuesday! I'm starting a new support group and they recommend a starting scan.
I had a tummy tuck 3 months ago, so I'm interested to see the change from my DEXA this past March. The surgeon said he removed 5.8 pounds of skin and fat.
Uh oh... I have surgery on the horizon in just a few days! Anyone know a location near to Boston that I can get a quick DEXA scan?
also- Kathy, thanks for the links to info about the postop period! Very helpful!
A basic bone density only scan, the DEXA that they use to diagnose osteoporosis or osteopenia, can be done anywhere with an xray machine. If you get a doctor's order, insueance usually covers it.
The complete body composition DEXA shown above is harder to find, and is not covered by insurance. The only place in the Boston area I know of is Cenegenics (sp?). Last time I checked, they were charging 175 bucks.

Thanks Grim, that's all I could find online also for private scanning. There was one other place in Wellesley I believe that has a "bod pod" but it sounds dissimilar. I think I'm going to try it out on Friday while I'm downtown for work... we'll see!
The BoPod doesn't give the range of detail the full DEXA does. It is pretty accurate as a body fat percentage for regular folks, but less so for our messed up bodies. Basically, it uses an air chamber to test the body's overall volume, compared to weight.
