Kathy S - WLS Journey - So that is the secret to success..Exercise.
Sept. 21, 2005
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the great emails. I just love hearing from everyone and love to be of any help I can.
I am working very hard to get ready for my first 5k run/walk this Sunday. I think I shared with you that when I went back for my one year follow - up I asked what was the one thing that Northwestern (and they see thousands of us weekly) found that worked for those that kept the weight off. I have NEVER been able to keep the weight off and want to make sure I do. They said it was exercise! Gee, I was hoping for something magic or a pill, chuckle, chuckle, but it was the old "exercise". So this is a way for me to change my habits. I am also looking into joining the Y.
The curves just doesn't do it for me any more. Don't get me wrong, this is perfect for those of us when we are first starting out but don't sign up for anything longer than one year. You will find you will need more after your first year.
I don't usually post about products but I have to do so with this one. It's sooooo important we track what we eat and what we do for exercise, I think more so trying to keep it off. The one product that was my bible through out the year was a hand held size Nutri-Counter. Now this was my bible. It keeps track of EVERYTHING. But it didn't keep track of exercise. So I went on their website and they now have an updated version that does that as well.
They have a special now where if you buy the hand held you get the software for your desktop and a leather case free. Here is the link if you are interested.

It is really my lifeline!!!
I will be sure and post some pictures of them carrying me off to the ambulance Sunday, chuckle, chuckle....
Take care,
Kathy
Updated thoughts - I had to laugh when I saw that great new tool I recommended. Keep in mind that was 12 years ago. Love the apps we have now! I really did become a gym rat and addicted to some degree with working out. It was key for me at the time. I am not as nuts as I was back then but I still enjoy exercising and really believe it's been key to help me keep the weight off. Try and find something you love to do and MOVE!

Good luck on your first 5K! I will be thinking of you.
I still remember my first 5K. Take several moments to be mindful during the race and admire other runners costumes, dogs etc. Be proud of your functioning body.
You are going to do well.

Hi SkinnySchientist,
I get questions all the time about my weight loss and plastic surgery. I decided to repost my blog entries from 2004 and 2005,. That post was from 2005 and that is why I do the updated thoughts after the old blog.
The link probably does not work since it's so old.
