Saxenda Injections After Gastric Bypass?
Hi!
I've gained a significant amount of weight back from Gastric Bypass in 2009. This is a on going battle.
My Doctor prescribed Saxenda Injections but my insurance will not approve it. The reason why is odd. They will not approve it because I had Gastric Bypass. I've asked 3 different people from my insurance company as to why this matters. NO ONE seems to know why! Ridiculous!!
I have Medicaid and plan on appealing. Is anyone in my shoes in regards to being prescribed Saxenda and denied from having Gastric Bypass?
Lastly, is anyone using Saxenda since you've already had Gastric Bypass? What is or was your experience?
Thanks!
I used it before surgery and it did cut my appetite and I lost some weight (I think about 6lbs the month I was on it?), but it caused terrible acid reflux issues. To the point where I couldn't even sleep in a recliner because I had to constantly be swallowing to prevent the acid from coming up. I did not have GERD issues before/after the med.

I haven't had gastric bypass but I just started taking Saxenda four weeks ago and so far, I've found it effective and haven't experienced any adverse side effects.
I lost a bunch or weight through diet and exercise and then a bunch more through a 12 week Optifast program and have continued to lose since with careful diet and exercise. I don't know how effective the Saxenda is or will be but my endocrinologist is hopeful it will help me keep off the weight I've lost at the very least. In the 4 weeks I've been using Saxenda (not quite up to the maintenance dose yet), I've lost 12lbs, which is consistent with my loss before.
I will say, it's been easy to stick to my 1200 calorie a day diet while on Saxenda and I haven't had any issues with cravings at all.

Started Optifast on April 21, 2017 at 248lbs through the Ontario Bariatric Network medical program.
My plan was to have WLS but I lost too much during the referral period (my BMI is now 27 with no comorbidities) so it's not an option right now. I will be on the wait list in a second if I ever qualify again but in the meantime, I'm trying to keep losing without the surgery and hopin Saxenda is helpful.
Good luck with your appeal!

I never said it was a miracle drug. It's ironic that you're on a weight loss page called Obesity HELP but are criticizing how one is handling things. I asked a question because I need HELP. I found your reply to be distasteful and just pretty disappointing.
Thank you NOT for not helping or showing any empathy. It REALLY makes me feel wonderful. Please don't reply as I have no interest in reading any of your negativity or showing "tough love".
Deuces!

Cathy wasn't being negative she was asking a question. Pretty much all of those appetite suppressant/control things only work short term and the weight will come back once off of them.
What you need to do is ask yourself why you gained the weight back.
If it is because you ate off plan and didn't track/measure/weigh what you ate and drank then you need to get back to the dense protein, minimal carbs/sugar, plenty of water and vitamins.
If it is due to some sort of problem with your bypass then your doctor needs to determine what is wrong and make a plan to fix it.
Best of luck to you.
