This seems like something you should discuss with your hematologist and bariatric surgeon.

I had anemia all my life .. to the point I was tested for childhood leukemia ( very painful) . Have no idea what the connection is with weight gain : perhaps just vitamin-hunger and the built in inability to absorb iron and stay satisfied. I'm just guessing ... but way too many posters hav said the same thing over the years for it not to be significant.

Post op the best treatment is highly absorbable varied types of iron supplements ( never elemental iron which we can't absorb ) my go - to is ferro-sequels. Works like a charm to immediately energize my body.

This is only true if the anemia is iron-deficiency anemia. There are many different types of anemia and telling someone who doesn't need iron supplementation to take more iron is a great way to kill them.

A bariatric surgeon/Dr would probably be the best source of information for this kind of question. I had the VSG & even though it's not the malabsorption wls, I still have to monitor my blood levels & anemia hasn't been a problem for me, but I never had your type of anemia, so I don't know if this will help you or not.

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel
