I am new to OH and a slow loser - help?
Hello. My name is June and I had 6 months ago the Roux-en-Y stomach reduction surgery. I have always been a fat girl and have 2 friends fatter than me who lost there weight very fast after surgery. But I think they had a different one from me (banana shape/sleeve type stomach) so maybe I made a bad choice? I have only lost about 50lbs which is good but I have so much more to loose, what can I do better to make it go faster? I am so frustrated. It is hard to eat right and if I do I still only loose a little.
I eat as best I can as I live on a tight budget. I try not to eat bad things like candy and fast food. I had my surgery in Mexico so I have to do it on my own now. My friend used to come here and told me about this webpage. I will try to read old posts to find good ideas about what to eat but would be very greatful to have your help and ideas. I have 6 kids and work full time so I think I move a lot. But I don't have time or money to go to a gym. Do you have to go to one for it to work faster? What are the best foods to eat to lose and not be hungry?

First, congrats on the loss so far and finding your way here. There's a lot of vets with good advice on these boards. Start looking at the daily posts where we are posting what we eat and see what others are eating who are successful. I'm 8 months post WLS (VSG) and I eat 700-800 calories /day, 64 oz. water, fewer than 30 carbs and all the vitamins. I assume you got vitamin guidelines with your surgery.
That translates to an egg or two for breakfast or a yogurt with 3 sliced strawberries. For lunch, 3 oz of tuna or chicken usually. Plus 1/4 cottage cheese or on top of 1/4 c. greens if I'm craving salad. For dinner, 3-4 oz meat and some kind of green veg. For example, a 4 oz (before cooking) hamburger patty and 1/4 c. green beans. No bread until maintenance although some people say they can do that and still lose weight. If I'm hungry and staying up late, I might have a snack which would be 1 piece string cheese or 1 5 oz low sugar greek yogurt or 1 sugar free pudding cup.
RNY is still the gold standard in WLS so you didn't chose the wrong surgery. And there's no requirement to join a gym. However don't confuse being busy with getting good total body exercise. You can do that by walking or just working out to a video or a tv show. I only added that because you asked. I personally don't like to exercise. I am a natural born slug.
Are you tracking your food? Lots of people use My Fitness Pal (I do) and track every morsel that goes in your mouth so you know where you are calorie wise. It's free and easy. I have it on my phone and update it every time I eat. It takes 5 minutes a day and is totally worth it.

I eat tuna packets and greek yogurts and some flat bread wraps with deli meats and the like. I don't like protein shakes as they are expensive and give me upset stomach. I eat peanut butter, though only with low carb crackers, no bread.
I saw the menu post on the RNY board so I will read through those and maybe try my luck with some of those recipes and ideas.

Dense protein is meat. Chicken, beef, turkey, fish, pork. You'll find that you can only eat 2 - 3 oz of meat because you will feel incredibly full, whereas you could eat many more oz of other types of foods. For example, even though Greek yogurt or cottage cheese have roughly the same protein count as a piece of chicken, they won't keep you equally satisfied.

Glad you are here. Please start posting on RNY forum on daily menu post. That may help you get feedback on your eating plans.
Unfortunately there are no shortcuts. We are what we eat. No excuses. A bit here, a bit there - things add up before you know it.
I used to be a member of "clean your plate" group. Food was precious when I was growing up, so I was told to eat it. That eventually made me be over 255 lbs.
Still it is hard for me to leave good quality food uneaten, to throw it out. With 6 kids it is problem not easy for you to manage. But you need to be taking care of you, so you can take care of the children year after year.
No excuses. No eating stuff because it is there, leftover. Good luck.
