Equifax data breach
Equifax (one of those companies which keep track of your SSN, credit score, whether you paid a bill late) got hit with a data breach a day ago. Someone I know had their info stolen in this heist.
This article should have a link in it to see if your personal information was stolen.

Yes, it's bad. No, don't sign up for their stupid credit monitoring. Or for that matter, rely on their tool (that asks for 6-digits of your SSN?!)

Read the fine print carefully. IIRC, if you use the tool to see if your info was stolen, you're also promising not to join a class-action suit in the future.

I'd heard that too, but the website was recently updated to say otherwise:
2). NO WAIVER OF RIGHTS FOR THIS CYBER SECURITY INCIDENT
In response to consumer inquiries, we have made it clear that the arbitration clause and class action waiver included in the Equifax and TrustedID Premier terms of use does not apply to this cybersecurity incident.
However, I agree that it does feel somewhat wrong to be GIVING most of my SSN to a company who was just responsible for such a massive data breach!
