Fires to the West, Hurricanes to the East, is this the end of the World?
Stay safe!

I have been living off-grid for three years now and the latest direction change will have Irma coming right on top of GA, where I'm located. The winds will be manageable, but if power is down, I won't be affected. For this, I am grateful. It was another hurricane that inspired me to consider this lifestyle back in 2008. We were out of power for 10 days, no ice in 50 miles. People changed and not for the better.

Hi Valerie,
I grew up in the midwest and we live with Tornadoes. As a kid I didn't give it much of a thought until one hit our town. Yikes...now out west I was thinking earthquakes but didn't have a clue about the fires. I guess there really is no place safe as you all are dealing with Hurricanes. As you said be prepared and be as safe as you can. Good Luck Valerie, we will be thinking of you this weekend. Let us know you are OK please.

Irma is now on a path to go right back to Ohio like Ike did in 2008. I was in Cincinnati where everyone went insane back then. I'm curious to hear if people are better prepared this time.
I know I am. My fridge, ho****er heater and stove are all propane. I have solar panels and a generator to charge my forklift battery, which will keep me in power for a couple of days. I have 550 gallons of water that will meet our needs for two weeks, so as long as the wind doesn't blow down my house, I'm good. Hubs is doing a survey of our surrounding trees now to decide if he needs to cut any down. I expect the mountains and forest we live in to break up the wind gusts, too.

Way to go Valerie! I have heard many learned from the last big hurricane and are better prepared. My heart goes out to all the animals also. The zoo animals where do they go? I would imagine they have protection for them. One can only hope!
Keep us posted

Yeah, it does seem crazy lately. Plus all the stuff with North Korea threatening nuclear war. Totally crazy.
Sending prayers for everyone who is in the path of fires/floods/hurricanes.

No, I'm really blessed to live in an area that is safe. We do get forest fires every year but luckily never too close to the city, so the air quality is fine. This year has been super wet and rainy so there was lower risk of fires. We don't get tornadoes or hurricanes in this area...we only have to deal with blizzards sometimes.
