Seems I'm one of the few that still get hungry. I'm starved! My stomach may be small but it's growling louder than ever! Stuff I hated before surgery even sounds good...2 weeks post op. 4 weeks liquid diet. Hopefully you aren't as unlucky.

It's frustrating. Maybe it's just our head hunger. I was craving food but I know if I tried to eat it I would have got sick. Something we just have to power through. How is you appetite 2 weeks post op? Are you able to eat more then your team recommends? Hopefully the sleeve helps you not to over eat. I'm hoping by week 2 I will have to remind myself to eat for fuel. I will be talking to my therapist about this Friday.

I wish that surgeons would be more honest about this.

I swear to you, your feelings are absolutely normal ... and I understand your fear. You are afraid that this will be like all the millions of other "diets" you've tried and failed. You are afraid that you will be the exception and WLS won't work for you.

But you are not.

Sure, you will find some people *****port that they never feel hungry after surgery (although many of these people are still in their honeymoon period and have a rude awakening coming to them at year 2.5 or 3!) -- but the great majority of us still want to and can overeat if we wanted to ... especially the further out you get.

There is a huge difference between appetite and hunger. Most of us who became obese conflate the two. Trust me, none of us got so obese that we needed WLS because we had been too hungry -- it was because we fed our huge appetite. Lord knows that I didn't need to be hungry to want to eat.

The key words in your post are "craving" -- which tells me that you are having head-hunger (appetite) -- which is totally normal. That's the HEAD WORK that vets talk about -- that surgery does not fix.

Keep in mind, you will not feel restriction with fluids (especially after swelling from surgery has subsided) and your nerves have been cut as well. Once you are on solid foods, you will feel your restriction far more. Keep to your plan, weigh and measure everything, and trust those who've gone before you and have been successful and maintained.

Do not, under any cir****tances, "test" things out ...

It's great that you are seeing a therapist. A great support system is crucial.

Hope this helps.

I had the rny. I have cravings still(head hunger) but also hungry. Partly my fault since I can't seem to get my fluids since plain bottled water of any temp feels as if it cloggs up my pouch. My husband suggested trying a different brand of water. I tried water through McDonalds drive-thru and I seem to tolerate it better...? Of course Crystal lite in water works. I tried a big bite of baked potato last night (chewed very well and swallowed in bits) as a pouch test and I was able to tolerate it good. I don't know that it made me less hungry... maybe? I don't have a team of doctors. I went to a nutritionist once(and will again) and my regular doctor was very vague on what and when to eat and drink so I'm relying on this forum to be my team.

This group is perfect for you to ask any questions you have. Have you thought about finding a therapist to help you through the different emotions and trials? It might help especially since you do not have a health team working close with you. You may also try pushing your doc for more specific guidelines. You will do great :-)

There's nothing wrong with drinking non-plain water :) Calorie free (or super low calorie in the case of crystal light) liquid is still liquid and it's what your body needs :) Some people have good luck with that pH bottled water since the different pH is more tolerable.

Baked potato will not help you reach your goal - don't eat it. You're less than two weeks out, are you still on full liquids?

Yes. still full liquids 2 weeks pre-op and 1 month after then puree and mushies next month. I did ask if the puree and mushies could be tested during last part of 1st month and he was ok with that.

Lol. I was making baked potatoes for the hubby and I HAD to taste it. Buttery, salty, goodness. Just one bite....

"I had to" and "just one bite" are very slippery slopes to start down. Best to get those thoughts and habits out of your brain ASAP.
