I took off 2 weeks for the surgery and I'm starting to worry that I didn't take enough time for healing and the pain to be under control. I am a school bus driver and we are really short on drivers right now and am feeling guilty about taking so long off. How long until ya'll were ready to go back to work "comfortably"?

I took three weeks off but could have gone back after two.

I think it depends on how much you weigh. I was almost 500 lbs when I had surgery, it took me about 4 weeks to have the energy to sit through a full day of activity.

If buses still have the door opener that you have to reach over and open then I wouldn't be able to do it yet. I'm 11 days out now. I can drive pretty comfortably though. My side hurts when I do certain movements sometimes so that leaning one would kill me.

I was out for 2 weeks but likely could have gone back mid week the 2nd week.

I planned for 2, took 3. Physically I was fine after 1.5, but mentally I was having a hard time. Also my job (at that time) was not very supportive and high stress and being mentally weakened I just couldn't handle it. So i took a few days to get my brain in order to be stronger both physically and mentally.

Good luck!

I'm new and just had my surgery less than 2 weeks ago. I think the poster that mentioned leaning to open/close doors made a very good point. Also, the risk for blood clots is to be considered. How long do you sit/drive at a time without being able to get up and walk?

It will vary greatly by person. Me, personally, I was 36 years old, 351 lbs, no comorbidities (yet). I have a desk job (Marketing). I had surgery Friday morning, was sent home Saturday, and took the following Monday through Friday off. I was doing some work calls by Wednesday, walked to the grocery store, and felt ok. I went out to dinner (with my protein shake!) on Friday night with friends. I was back in the office Monday (so a total of one week off). I was a little tired by the end of the day that first week, but otherwise ok.
