Does decaf or herbal tea = water?
I'm learning what I can and can't have as I begin the process for bypass surgery in June 2018. I haven't seen the nutritionist yet. Does anyone know if I drink decaf unsweetened tea or herbal teas and count that towards the amount of water I am supposed to drink every day? I was told I could add Crystal Light to the water and that would count still as water. So if Crystal Light counts, can decaf tea or herbal tea count?

I drink a whole myriad of sugar-free/calorie free liquids in a day. Bai, Decaf Coffee, occasionally I add mix in's to my water, I drink 1 diet soda per day (I did not start that until awhile after surgery of course). I get a ton of fluid, but only about 36-48oz per day is plain water.

It does count. Be aware that tea within two hours of iron or iron supplements will block iron absorption.

Interesting- do you think is that because of the tannins? If so this would mean you would have absorption issues with decaffeinated black and green tea but not with herbal "teas" (infusions). I hope so because I drink a lot of iced herbal tea.
Correct. Most people blame everything on caffeine. But the issue with iron absorption is the tannins and polyphenols found in tea and the chlorogenic acid in coffee.
