I don't know if I can do this!!
Take a deep breath-- or 3. You can do this, but I feel like you are over complicating things right out of the door.
standard that was set for me re: sugar was it should have 8g or less. Yes you need the protein- it's your nourishment right now. I only ever drink mine with milk. No on the ice cream. Strained soup is soup without chunks of food. Chicken noodle w/o the chicken or noodle.
by day 4 it'll still suck but not seem so impossible.

I was so totally NOT hungry at all after surgery. Getting in my liquids and protein was like having a full time job. I had to force myself to slowly sip away to get it all in. My hunger didn't return until about 5.5 months post op, and it's nothing like it was preop. If I go too long between meals I do feel it now, but am satisfied once I eat something.
The first day of a liquid diet is hard as you still have your full sized stomach. Hang in, you'll get through. It's only 1 week of your entire life; try to look at it that way. It will pass quickly and it's a small price to pay to become healthier and change your life. I was on my liquid pre op diet for 3 weeks and there were many times I wondered how I would get through; the answer was, one day at a time. We've all done it and it's totally doable. You can do it too. You've got this. Instead of focusing on how hard it is, try to keep your eye on the prize and visualise how good you'll feel once you've lost 20, 50, or 100 Lbs or more. That helped me a lot.
Don't eat the icecream; that will be full of calories even if it's low sugar. Sugar free popsicles are usually OK on most plans but you can ask your centre if it's allowed. If you're allowed yogurt, look for plain Greek or Skyr yogurt; that usually has the highest protein, lowest carbs. You can add some splenda to sweeten it if it tastes too bitter at first.
Pre-Op Visit: Jan. 10, 2017, weight 304, surgeon: Dr. David Lindsay, St. Joe's, Toronto

I would just have no sugar added yogurt as your surgeon recommends. I was happy that my surgeon no longer has his patients do a two week liquid fast. He found no difference in the size of the livers of those who did the fast and those who did not comply. And those who didn't do the fast went into the surgery stronger and had more energy for the limited diet stages that follow surgery. But I would have done anything my program required.

If you are serious about having the surgery and changing your lifestyle, this is worth it and you can and will do it. I did two weeks of liquids and had my surgery in Feb of 2017. 6 months out I have lost 144lbs and I am 60 from my goal weight.
If it is important, you can make it through.
Quit trying to find loopholes in the "liquid diet" and just push through. You will only be cheating yourself.
Every Dr has a different "plan" for the pre-op diet. My Dr allowed 3 protein shakes per day and then 3oz of lean meat and veggies at dinner. It was hard but I lost 21# in 2 weeks and my liver was shrunk like it should be. I called to see if I could have SF jello and the answer was no, nothing but the shakes and dinner. If you can get some more clarification on what you can and can't have, that would be your best bet.

Everyone is different but in general you won't feel as hungry (if you do it's usually head more than physical... get busy, movie, book, chat with a friend) but liquids and pureeds/softs are not easy... but nothing wonderful is right ;) http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2016/05/liqui d-phase-for-post-weight-loss.html
I didn't read all the replies (sorry if this repeats) but you want to avoid added sugars... naturally occuring sugars like lactose (all dairy) and fructose (fruits) should not be as big of an issue, though some people are lactose intolerant post -op for a time but it's usually liquid milk versus yogurt, cheese, etc.
I'd advise no on storebought SF Ice cream for now (pre-op) though you can turn your protein shakes into Protein Ice Cream https://www.pinterest.com/eggface/protein-ice-cream/ so if you have an approved shake (post-op) and an ice cream maker voila you can have a batch in no time.
Best wishes!! It was the BEST decision I ever made hope you will soon be feeling the same!

My opinion and only my opinion- a HUGE part of the pre-op diet is physiological. It is something that helps you get your head in the game. It makes you conscientious about what you are putting in your mouth because you are set for a life time of that. It helps to boost your confidence. it help to mentally prepare you for what you are choosing to do about your weight. I find it very sad ( and i m not judging you) that on your FIRST day of your pre op you are starting out by saying" i don't know if I can do this"- everyone much more knowledgeable than me is giving you great nutritional advice. My advice is to stop the negative voices in your head right now and start practicing saying " I CAN do this" and " I WILL do this"
