HCG diet? Anyone tried it after surgery? VSG?

I have several friends who have had amazing success on the HCG diet but after doing VSG and failing, I am very leary and frustrated. I can do the reduced calorie, hell, I forget to eat 1/2 the time anyway.

Any thoughts or experiences?

HCG diet is expensive snake oil. You have an excellent tool with your VSG. Get yourself back to protein-forward basics and actually weigh out your portions and limit snacks and calorie drinks and you'll do just fine. On the VSG board there is a daily menu thread--if you've fallen out of your good habits, it might be a good idea to look there and get ideas for how to limit portions yet stay satisfied and lose weight.

You can do it!

My sister is 10+ years post op RNY and she went on the HCG diet a while back and did great. Until she went off it and the weight piled back on faster than before.

I found that to be the case for me before WLS. The fast I lost weight the fast I put it back on, plus some.

Save your money and use your tool. If you already forget to eat half the time then that is an indication that it is still working. Just remember to avoid the carbs the other half and you should do fine.

Diets are what made me fat in the first place. Changing my lifestyle and using my tool is what works for me

Sounds like snake oil to me as well. Here is WebMD's review http://www.webmd.com/diet/hcg-and-weight-loss#1

Under 500 calories! Of course people lose weight while on it but it certainly can't be sustainable. As others said, use your WLS tool and eat low calorie, protein forward.

I was on HCG a few years back. It worked as long as I ate next to nothing. It was expensive. My portion of my surgery was cheaper than the HCG program. I liked the accountability because I'd go every week. But you can do that without HCG. I had unpleasant side effects. As soon as I stopped, I gained the weight back plus some. Why did you fail the vsg? If you have a vsg stomach then there's something else going on that's keeping you from losing.
