Has anyone had their nutritionist object to the 600 -800 calorie a day post op diet that causes 100 lb of weight loss in 6 months? I know in the past slow and sure was the doctor's motto...

Are they good for anything? Should I even go back? Or is it just the calorie thing...

Word!

I'd be dead or really malnourished if I listened to mine.

I admit, I've never given my surgeon's nutritionist a chance to pass judgment on my way of eating. She gives me her advice, I nod and smile, ask a few questions, and that's that.

Yup- I learned, smile, nod and carry on. My surgeon's nutritionist is ok- and has never had any issue with my approach. The one I see for work/insurance reason is nice- but pushes more calories all the time.

Nuts make foolish objections to all kinds of things. Usually it's that we need to eat more carbs. I ignored all of that.

I went to mine for mandated pre-op and immediately post op while in the hospital. I haven't been back. They did call and say I agreed to yearly visits when I had the surgery but what are they going to do, take back the operation?? Lol

Her advice was worse than useless, it actually made me sick. So no I'm not going back

My surgeon plays the role of nutritionist in his office. He's an advocate of the 800-calories-for-losing camp. Aside from his love of fat free dairy (the horror ), most of his advice was pretty good.

In all the years I've been a nurse I've only know one license nut who has never had an eating disorder, so they likely do understand the emotional and compulsion issues we face. They are, in my experience, a very good source for counseling referrals.

Listen to what they say. Take what you can use and leave the rest.
