Well, I made it 2 years and I feel successful.
I don't know much about it yet. I've just done a bunch of questionnaires and then during our last session we started writing down and prioritizing areas of my life, how important they are to me and how I feel about where they stand. Then general ideas on how and what I want to do to make it better if I'm not satisfied with it.
I think what I like about it is the structure. It's not just me sitting there pouring my heart out to someone who listens, it's an actual plan to maybe get things moving in the right direction.
My therapist is actually a grad student, and the whole thing is being overseen by her professors at the clinic run by Eastern Michigan University. It's awesome because I feel like the student will be more thorough than a therapist who has their own practice. They have something to do/prove in treating me, so everything I say will be analyzed. She is looking for results, not just to help me, but to further her education and career. The sessions are recorded and analyzed by the professor (who are all licensed clinicians). I know that many instructors and students are discussing me and my issues, so it's like having a bunch of therapists working on me.
That's the great thing about living so close to a University. I get super cheap DEXA scans at their nutrition clinic where the student Nutritionists work, and good, cheap therapy at their psychology clinic. I pay $10 per therapy session and $40 for a DEXA scan.
Congratulations on two years! Huge difference
