This is much like my experience. I wore uniforms too-- and remember the uniform store and being measured-- where it was obvious my fitting wasn't going like the other girls. No 'suck it in', 'no more cake/ice cream etc was being scolded at them.

Hated it. But it could have been worse- shopping for regular clothes would likely have been much worse.

By the time I got to Jr High, I had become a master at excuses to not attend. I will never forget one male gym teacher Mr. Bradley running up to me because I was walking and not running. He was in my face and screaming at me to run as I needed it more than the others. I was in tears and we lived just across the playground so I walked home and told my Mom. She reported it to the school and they did nothing Today he would have been fired and gotten sued if they acted that way.

KATHY - I could have written your post, myself. My mom took me to Sears (I think), because they had "X" after their sizes...and Chubby and Husky. We only went ONE year. My skinny mom was cruel " was royal blue....Sooooooooooo ugly!!!!!!!! And hard to reach the crotch snaps!!!

Thank God I guess our school district was too poor to have swimming---no swim suits, for us!!!

Any time I see a fat child---boy OR girl----I just want to hug them...

Yep Gina, Sears or JC Penny's

My heart breaks for them all...childhood is so hard but with the added burden of being the fat kid?

I remember the yearly weight-ins. In the beginning of 4th grade was the first girl in my grade to weigh over 100 pounds... never mind that at 5'4" I was also the tallest.

I spent years believing that I was enormously fat.

Oh yeah! I hear ya! ((hugs)) I was always 1 of the 2 big girls in all my classes from first grade through senior year.

In high school I weighed 150lbs and was an athlete in tennis and in swimming. I was at least 20-40lbs heavier than the girls. I thought I was so enormous and had terrible self-esteem. I remember scoring diet pills from my mom (Ionamin=yellow mollies, I think?). It took me my entire senior year on them, eating about 400-500 cals/day and I finally got down to 140lbs. I think I wore a size 13 juniors at 150lbs? le sigh I would embrace that weight now and think I was the shiznits! At 140lbs I wore a size 6 skirt (misses, not juniors).

Edited to add, isn't it crazy how our minds work and how we're conditioned to feel inadequate? In reality, yes, I was overweight, but my dysmorphia made me feel like I was as big as when I was at my heaviest at 325lbs.

Me too! The problem was-our bodies were probably already an adult. And here we are trying to shove ourselves into kid's clothes. College guys would hit on me cuz I had boobs, a waist and hips. I felt fat, my friends (of the same age) looked like kids (no boobs, no hips).
