Opinions on alcohol

Life is good. I knew I didn't have a choice on becoming sober. Not for anyone else other than myself. I know if I did it for someone else it would not happen.

I am much happier. I am more confident. Not always.

I made the choice on March 14th 2016 that I could not live like that anymore. With the help of AA. It has helped.

It's not a cure all. But my life before stopping drinking was not working. I wanted to die.

A lot of people are tortured souls not just with alcohol but other addictions. Food was my first then alcohol came into play.

The face of an alcoholic is not what we picture. We come from all walks of life. Doesn't discriminate with anyone.

Hi, talking from experience, I used to order Virgin Bloody Marys, one time the bartender accidentally put some alcohol in my drink, I could not stand, the alcohol got into my bloodstream so fast before I even new it... I just attended my class reunion and drank sparkling water with lime, I still had a good time with friends, true friends will understand that you choose to not take a chance on getting too tipsy or sick. Go, have fun anyways!

Generally, especially mixed drinks are loads of empty calories. I will have something if I really want it, but I have to allow for it in my meal plan for the day.

Also, if you are being careful not to eat and drink at the same time, you will have an empty stomach for the alcohol. I have found post-op that alcohol on an empty stomach makes me queasy.

Incidentally, I am now a SUPER cheap date. I very much wanted a margarita the other night after a shopping trip with hubby. He had to cut me off after 1/2 because I was getting super giggly and having coordination problems with my knife and fork to cut my meat. This for a woman who used to drink most guys under the table.

In general, alcohol isn't worth the trouble and the expense (financially and with the calorie bank) to me. I will occasionally want a hard cider, but I rarely drink more than about 1/4 of the bottle due to restriction or queasiness on an empty stomach and hubby gets to fini**** off.

Unless you're just really craving the taste and want to adjust your other calories for the day, I think you'll find that it's not worth it, mostly.

No I'm definitely not craving it. I haven't ever tasted a drink I have enjoyed when I was 21 and trying things out. Last thing I tried was a wine a good number of years ago lol. I am by no means a drinker.

Depending on what is going on, either I'll order one glass of red wine and nurse it (along with a glass or two of water) or a vodka and club soda and nurse that as well. (I'm 11 months out).

I enjoy a glass of wine with dinner a few times a week, but make sure I have the extra "calories" in my budget for it and that I have met my fluid and protein goal before I have the glass of wine.

Keep on losing!

I cook with alcohol, but I have no interest in drinking it. For me it's a waste of calories and I would always rather drink something else. I also feel like I'm goofy enough without adding something that will mentally impair me to the mix.

If you hang out here long enough, you'll read enough stories of transfer addiction and regain to make you swear off alcohol for good.

Thankfully I just don't like alcohol. I mostly just wanted to read opinions! I don't like the thought of not being in control of my self. No thanks!

I was an occasional drinker before WLS and continue to be one. Honestly, it's hard to give up the calories and I notice that I don't feel well after drinking more than a small amount of alcohol. So I have a sip of wine when required for religious reasons or for festive toast. Once in a while I have (and enjoy) 1/2 of a ****tail. I think what I enjoy the most is leaving half of it without regrets!
