Introduction
Hello everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been lurking here since the beginning of the year and I enjoy reading the posts.
In January, I started my weight loss process and I am down about 110 pounds. I am still needing to lose at least 100 pounds more. It is a daily struggle. I had my first consult for WLS surgery in March and after all my insurance requirements, I plan on having surgery in September.
There are times I wonder if I really need this surgery since I have been doing pretty good on my own. But then I start thinking about the times I have lost weight only to gain it and then some back. All I know right now is that after all this hard work I do NOT want to go back to where I was.
I am sure I will post more as my surgery date gets closer. Thank you for all the indirect support from posts.
Welcome. Congrats on your success. That's awesome. Everybody is different. As for me, I lost 200 lbs twice in my life and gained it all back one time and gained a little over 100 lbs back the second time. I finally had surgery in October and haven't regretted it for an instant. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Welcome! How well you have done, that is awesome!
Everyone is different, but for me, having RnY was the right choice. I had lost more than 100 pounds, even close to 150 pounds, a few times, yet after all that, ended up at my highest weight yet. I decided to have this done not so much to lose weight (though that is fantastic and exciting) as to give me a tool with which to help me maintain. It's still very demanding to go through this process (especially for those in maintenance) and is not a magic wand, but I felt it would help, and I realized that I needed help to conquer the disease of obesity.
The most I ever lost pre-surgery was about 60 lbs (which I did a handful of times), but I always eventually gained it back -and then some. I never could have lost 230 lbs without surgery - even with 60, I was constantly fighting biology. At two years out, it's a struggle again (it really wasn't the first few months post surgery), but not as much as before. Plus with a smaller stomach, I can't eat gobs of food at one sitting (you have to really watch grazing, though, as you can put away a ton of calories doing that...). Surgery is basically a tool that makes it possible to lose a lot of weight and maintain it. It does take commitment, though.
Thank you very much for all the encouragement. I have made it through the 6 months and have my surgery scheduled for September. I am excited one minute but then nervous the next worrying about if this is the right decision. Have others felt this way?
I was able to play with my kids at a park and climb chains, tires, and go down a slide. I haven't been able or willing to do that for a long time due to embarrassment. I was even able to go on some carnival rides! I am very thankful for this site because I am able to keep my self on track and be motivated by others. So thank you!
