I have celiac, I am scheduled for RNY on 7/31. Did anyones go away after surgery? Get worse?

From what I understand, celiac is an autoimmune disease that can go into remission, but is never really "cured". Most post-op people follow a very low-carb lifestyle and cut out "white" foods--crackers, bread etc. Post-op eating will likely keep you away from gluten anyway, but you'll still have to be careful.

It shouldn't go away after surgery.

You have that for life. But as mentioned, going low carb should help.

I'm celiac and I'm six months out from RNY. I haven't tried to eat gluten. I ate wheat for 35 years before diagnosed but my surgeon said to stay on the GF diet. The malabsorption of vitamins is why I waited so long for WLS. The sample size for people with RNY and Celiac is too small to have scientific recommendations. My sensitivity is low. I can live and eat flour without caring too much about the side-effects but since I have been GF for a decade, I am very aware of when I ate something contaminated. So, I'll share that the yucky feeling when you know you ate flour is very scarily similar to how you feel when you break RYN rules but the recovery is faster. Feel free to ask me anything. I know it's a lot.
