Kathy S WLS Journey - Slap Me I am Hysterical!
Slap Me I am Hysterical!
September 15, 2004Drove down town again to see Dr. Nagle. When the doctor came in I was crying so much my husband had to explain the care of these wounds was really to much for me. He said they would get home health care nurses to come in and help me. I felt the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders.
He said the incision area looked ok but he was upset as the area he cut is healing from the outside in and not the inside out. This was due to me not stuffing the open wound with gauze. He pulled out the JP tubes and I showed him the one that didn't look very healthy. He said to watch it and let him know of any changes. He wanted to see me two weeks from then the 29th. They called and arranged for a nurse to come to my home before I left, I am really feeling better about managing this whole thing.
The nurse called and she is coming out tomorrow.
Updated thoughts - if you have any questions, concerns call your surgeon's office ASAP. I had stressed myself out to the point of needing to be slapped like in the movies My poor husband had to put up with my hysterics day and night.... Second thought - always, always follow your surgeon's instructions. I made it worst and the set back added weeks to my recovery.

Packing an open wound is NO fun! Much easier when someone else does it, but still painful. I wanted off of my pain pills (I hate them), so I cried every time my husband changed the packing. He said that was very difficult for him. I imagine the home care was such a blessing.
You went through a lot Kathy! Thank you for sharing not only what you went through but also how you feel about it now. You are a real champion of WLS but also of reality and truth.
